Join California Waterfowl on a truly enjoyable Veteran hunt with Moon Lake Duck Club. This club is located between the Sacramento NWR and Delavan NWR and is a season-long attraction for the large amount of ducks and geese wintering in this area. You will hunt out of flooded rice fields and well-maintained pit blinds and enjoy shooting waterfowl at close ranges and “feet down” in the decoys. This is one of those remarkable hunts brought to CWA via a generous donor supporting our Veteran Hunt Program. Hunts will occur every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday during the season as well as storm days.  It will be 2 groups of 2-3 veterans per hunt depending on weather conditions. 

Special conditions: Open to any active-duty service member, or veteran of the military, naval or air service who was discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable. Learn more about the Veteran Hunt Program.

The Scurria Property deer hunt

Description: The Scurria Property is located just outside of Colusa, along the active floodplain of the Sacramento River. is 148 acres of fields and orchards. The hunt winner will be accompanied by a CWA employee and is permitted to hunt during the last two days of the D3-5 season. One hunter and one non hunter. Hunter is responsible for acquiring D3-5 tag. The hunter will have the opportunity to hunt 11/2 and 11/3.

pope ranch duck/pheasant hunt

Description: Pope Ranch, CWA's newest property, encompasses 397 acres in Yolo County. Wildlife is abundant in the tule thickets that run adjacent to the meandering sloughs. The winning groups will hunt mallards in the small potholes until 8 AM. After 8, they will be able to chase wild pheasants throughout the property. Two groups will be drawn for each date.

HOODOO ISLAND Veteran turkey hunt

Description: HooDoo Island, a portion of the Little Dry Creek unit of the Upper Butte Basin Wildlife Area in Butte and Glenn counties, consists of 130 acres of pristine wetland and riparian habitats. Butte Creek and Howard Slough flow around the island, creating a wildlife corridor teeming with wild turkey and other wildlife.

MOUND FARMS FAMILY WATERFOWL HUNT

Capacity: 2 hunters (one must be youth)
Restrictions: none

Description: Mound Farms was restored by CWA in 2013. Located in the southern Yolo Bypass, 16 miles south of Davis. You can plan on shooting a variety of species. All hunting will be from pit blinds or stand-up blinds.

Special conditions: At least one hunter must be a junior. Two groups will be drawn each hunt date.

SCHAEFER RANCH pig hunt

Restrictions: Must be in good physical condition

Schaefer Ranch is a conservation easement located in Dublin. The Ranch is teeming with wildlife and pigs are abundant. Hunts will be spot and stalk. Hunters should expect to walk 8-10 miles on uneven terrain. Hunters will be accompanied by CWA’s Hunt Program coordinator. This hunt is a rifle hunt but if you have a bow as well, it will open up an extra 200 acres to hunt.
