Birds banded in 2023
In 2023, we banded a total of 8,549 birds, including 17 different species, with the majority being mallards, northern pintails, and gadwalls. Banding is an important part of sustainable conservation. It helps close the tracking loop for researchers, providing crucial data on population size, distribution, and migration patterns. This information aids in setting hunting regulations that ensure sustainable harvests while also protecting duck populations.
