State legislators take to the shooting range with outdoor assocations
California Waterfowl and our sporting partners sponsored a trap and skeet shoot for members of the state Legislature June 25 at the Yolo Sportsmen’s Association near Davis. The event, which was associated with the California Legislature Outdoor Sporting Caucus, was attended by about 110 legislators, their staff and representatives of the hunting and shooting community. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife provided safety education and training for all shooters.
The purpose of the State Legislature Outdoor Sporting Caucus is to educate state legislators and other decision-makers about the value of hunting, fishing and the shooting sports, especially their role in funding and supporting wildlife conservation efforts. The Caucus is modeled on the federal Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus, which is a bicameral, bipartisan caucus for members of the U.S. Congress.
The 13th annual trap and skeet shoot was sponsored by CWA, the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation, Ducks Unlimited, California Rifle and Pistol Association, California Bowmen Hunters/State Archery Association, California Deer Association, Monterey County Fish and Game Commission, Butte County Fish and Game Commission, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, California Houndsmen for Conservation, and the SF Bay Area Chapter of Safari Club International.
CWA is also attending a salmon fishing event for Legislators and their staff later in July that is also affiliated with the California Legislature Outdoor Sporting Caucus. In addition, CWA and our partners will be hosting a reception for the Caucus in Sacramento in August.
