Recent Work at Grizzly Island Wildlife Area Update
Summer and Fall work were quite productive at Grizzly Island Wildlife Area. Interior and exterior levee repair was a focus as well as replacing and repairing multiple drain pumps facilitating increased circulation and faster drainage which is imperative to management in brackish marshes. The large barge delivered 1,400 tons of riprap to help protect levees from erosion. In addition, roughly 10,00 cubic yards of dredge material was taken from Montezuma Slough via the barge to rebuild and raise low sections of exterior levee. This work was to ensure the long-term health of these wetlands at this incredible wildlife area.
