Imperial Work Update
Work started this week with scrapers moving lots of dirt at the Imperial Wildlife Area’s Wister Unit’s W11A&C. Efforts are constructing new levees, swales and islands that will be ready for this fall’s migration. Salt cedar removal continues throughout W11 and will start on W12 soon. The improvements will allow for advanced wetland management practices to be implemented that will increase feed production moving forward. Y15 had blind locations marked and plans put together for adding new islands and gravel paths to blind locations. California Department of Fish and Wildlife and CWA staff are working together to ensure that the public sees significant improvements in their outdoor experience at Wister while waterfowl benefit from the significant management improvements that will be the results of these Wildlife Conservation Board funded efforts.
