Assembly Bill 28 was signed into law this week

An unfortunate bill that adds an additional tax on the sale of firearms and ammunition was signed by the governor this week. CWA is highly disappointed with the passage of AB 28, which we and other sporting groups strongly opposed through our lobbying work in Sacramento. This tax measure will create a further disincentive for Californians to hunt and participate in the shooting sports. Unlike existing excise taxes on firearms and ammunition under the Federal Pittman-Robertson Act, there will be no financial benefit whatsoever for wildlife or their habitat. The new tax also wrongly implies that law-abiding sportsmen are somehow responsible for the impacts of gun-related violence and crime.
