Acclaimed photographer joins California Waterfowl

California Waterfowl welcomes Wayne Tilcock to its communications team.

Tilcock has over two decades of journalism experience, mostly as a photo editor and more recently as sports editor at The Davis Enterprise newspaper.

His work as a photographer has been highly recognized, including being the fourth most decorated journalist in California in 2016 as recognized by the California Newspaper Publishers Association. One of his photos was also named as one of Time Magazine’s Top Ten Photos of 2011.

"Wayne's stunning photography has already begun to help tell California Waterfowl's story in the most vivid terms," said Communications Director Holly Heyser. "He's done great work telling the stories of our banding efforts, habitat work and summer camps and clinics."

Tilcock's experience as a landscape photographer will serve the waterfowl and wetland community well. "We're looking forward to getting him into the marsh this winter to capture the beauty of California's waterfowl and wetlands, particularly CWA's properties from the Tulare Basin to the Butte Sink," Heyser said. "We're also excited to see what scenes he'll capture on hunts - all those incredible moments that make hunters' synapses sizzle."

Along with his story-telling abilities, Wayne brings with him a great love of the outdoors. Growing up on the edge of the Suisun Marsh, he spent most of his youth camping and hiking around Northern California and even did his Eagle Scout project at the Grizzly Island Wildlife Area.

Wayne will assist in producing CWA’s quarterly magazine and social media posts, and help maintain its website.
