ORDER DUCK STAMPS ONLINE

Before you order your stamps, a quick message from California Waterfowl's new President, John Carlson, Jr.:

After 22 years with the California Department of Fish and Game and most recently as the Executive Director of the California Fish and Game Commission, it is with great anticipation and enjoyment that I accepted the rare opportunity to be President of California Waterfowl. First, let me tell you that I am not a stranger to California Waterfowl and the outstanding work they do. I have been a proud California Waterfowl supporter for twenty three years. In fact, I worked as a field biologist in 1987 under the guidance of your former President, and my friend, Dr. Robert McLandress. It has been my pleasure to watch California Waterfowl grow into a leader in waterfowl and wetlands conservation in California. My personal and professional goal has always been to help protect, conserve, and enhance fish and wildlife populations as well as ensuring that future generations have the opportunity to enjoy these resources. Both in my position at DFG and the Fish & Game Commission, I have witnessed firsthand the great respect California Waterfowl has earned in the waterfowl community at both the state and national level, gaining a respected voice when it comes to setting our seasons and bag limits. Of course, California Waterfowl has long been a force in setting public policy and impacting legislation at the state level and our current partnership with the California Outdoor Heritage Association (COHA) has helped to increase our effectiveness in the policy and legislative arenas.

I pursued this job because I believe in California Waterfowl and its members and I look to build even stronger relationships with government entities, secure more funding for our tremendous programs and help California Waterfowl continue to provide the voice and protect the rights of the California duck hunter!

As you prepare to buy your duck stamps for this upcoming season, please help California Waterfowl work on your behalf to solidify the future of waterfowl hunting with a generous tax deductible donation. California Waterfowl’s award-winning programs include: Waterfowl Research, Wetlands Enhancement and Restoration, Government Affairs and many more. But it is the top-notch Youth and Education Program that really hits home for me. Hunter camps, shooting clinics, junior hunts, the junior duck stamp program, classroom curriculums, and college chapters; these are truly inspiring programs. I have two young boys, and I intend to fulfill my promise to them that they will enjoy the same hunting and outdoor experiences that I have enjoyed.

This year we have a unique opportunity to fund our Youth and Education Programs through the K.H. Hofmann Youth Challenge Grant. All donations received from this year’s Duck Stamp sales will be matched at one dollar for every three we receive! So this year more than ever your donation of $25, $50, $100, or more will go a long way toward making sure we can continue our efforts on your behalf!

I look forward to leading California Waterfowl into the battles we will face in advancing our mission to preserve and enhance California’s waterfowl, wetlands and hunting heritage. Thank you so much for your ongoing support. I hope to see you in the field.

Sincerely,

John Carlson Jr.
President
